You'll need a second unit if you have the space, which I doubt ... unless it's an old beast. The A/C unit is part of a sealed system compressing refrigerant. You'll need an extra one to compress air. And you'll need an extra drive pulley to take the belt or a VERY long serpentine belt if that's the case.

I've seen them myself and they certainly seem to do the job.

Nah Got plenty of room under the bonnet of the 60 Series. I don't really want to ditch the A/C. I take it it's a matter of fabricating a bracket and running a belt to accomadate and away I go? Is there anything else that needs to be done to the compressor?

Used one myself once,and it did a good job but as has been mentioned on the later vehicles room is the problem. Cant remember where I saw it but someone like ORE has done an adapter kit to fit one off the sump bolts I think. You also have to run a bit of oil through the compressor now and then as they are lubricated by the air con gas. Unless you can fit it yourself you will find the cost involved would be as much as the cost of a good portable compressor 12v There are some good units on the market today.

Use a Sanden 508 Compressor...

Cant be done on 3.0 GU's.

Ive done it myself in the old gq & Mq with the sanden sd508 comp, i filled it partially with oil and fitted a water separator on the outlet line so the oil and water could be drained out every once in a while, depending on how often i used it.
The other thing to do is strip the compressor and block the small oil lube pipe which pumps it back through the system. I havent tried it yet as my new trucks the GU, but i have stripped an old one & found how to do it, quite simple.
Endless air supposedly remove the old bearings and fit fully sealed bearings in them but VERY xxy!
