Ian

Hi guys ,my question is i am currently insured with australian four wheel drive insurance who have great cover but after enquiring about my daughter getting her learners permit they told me they dont cover anybody under 25,which seems ironic considering all the advertising about teaching learners in all conditions, can anybody help with top 4x4 cove that will cover learners under 25,,,with thanks ,,,,Ian

If you are talking about the AN4WDC Insurance then you have the option of full cover or paying less for over 25 cover only. According to my full cover policy there is a $700 excess for under 21's or a $400 excess for 21's to 25's. Previous policies with other companies had much higher age excesses.

Ian, this is based on fairly old information, but a few years ago the learner driver was judged to not legally be in control of the vehicle. This being the case, insurance companies provided cover for the learner driver. Check with your company as to if this is the case. Bill

My 4WD is has been insured by Australian Four Wheel drive Insurance but I have just received a letter from them advising that they are reviewing renewals and because I declared the posibility of a driver under 21 they will not be renewing my policy. I have not made any claims but now have to make alternative insurance arrangements because there will be no cover after the current expiry date. A word of warning - watch the fine print.

Gee that's a bit rude, I guess they decided they can do it for cheaper if they don't insure younger drivers. I guess that makes the older drivers happy about cheaper insurance, but it will make it harder for them to attract new business. I'd avoid suncorp if you want to ever go to a 4WD park. Best to find a good insurance broker (preferable one who drives a 4WD) and see what insurance he recommends. Good Luck
