I agree with Truckster, it sounds like you'll never take it off road which is a good thing for a 100 series. I'd go the diesel for fuel efficiency but if you don't care the petrol has more grunt for the highway (you talking the 6 cylinder or V8?) Either way they're both good.
This site is more for those that actually take their vehicle off road and that's not just a gravel track. As long as you have the allmighty cruiser that will save me pain sitting behind somebody on 80 km/h from Perth to Broome b4 they expose themselves on Cable beach.!Nice southerly coastal fishing trip someday.

Mike, Bob is as usual, spot on. You will have no problems with your 100 series even off road despite Chris' comments. Don't know why he said it as he drives a 80series. Somethings may have been softened up but the 100 is still a very capable vehicle.
Since your towing a van, You will find the turbo'd desiel very capable.

I guess caravans and discos are ideal for the GRR, CSR, Cape York, Mitchell Plateau etc.

This site is good for the soft stuff but is definitely better than any other site for the more challenging treks. Treknotes, GPS readings etc. I'm sure there's a site somewhere for caravanners in particular.

I was taking the mickey out of the 100series as two owners have told me that they'd prefer their ol' 80 series due to several different problems.

Remember as a general rule, the harder it is to get to, the fewer people you have to share it with.Nice southerly coastal fishing trip someday.

I don't think you should take your 'van to those places, but in my experience they pose no problem for bog standard Pajeros, LX470 (aka 100 series), or Disco TD5s. Interestingly, the 80 series that I crossed the travelled the Colson track with fell apart (front shocks disintegrated) while the Disco towing a trailer had no problem at all. The same 80 series has now got a burned out piston/cylinder at 250,000 km despite careful maint by well known diesel experts.Bob
