If anyone gets an email from simon25@hotmail.co.uk read this link:

Is the virus warning about a hacker called Simon Ashton real?

Who else remembers our famous Simon?

Before you fall off your perch go to SNOPES and read about it.

Do not be fooled by the opening comment that "I checked Snopes and it's real" - check Snopes for yourself.

Snopes is a search engine that specialises in exposing bullshit and scams of all descriptions.
There are a couple of others, but Snopes is probably the best

No problem Phil.

Snopes is a website where one can check questionable warnings etc.

See Snopes - Simon.

And, like you, I also deleted the email (having first checked on Snopes).

Cheers,

I knew it was bogus to start with. Knowing where it came from also made me suspicious.

Never used SNOPES. The policy is that if you are at all suspicious then delete it. If it is important then they should have sent it by mail. Emails can so easily be tampered with that we do not accept anything "official" by email.

I can also look at the raw file data in both hex and binary before opening any email. Helps to have a grass roots type of programming background.

Thanks for the info.

If I receive e-mails from the likes of Simon I delete them. However the biggest problem is people keep sending these rubbish e-mail warnings of something harmless. That's when I use the Snopes and other similar sites and show the senders of the rubbish warnings how they have been duped. That's cut down half of my spam.

I just make up message rules that delete them automatically as they are received. I had forgotten about this one.

No need for snopes if you use some common sense as I did and check it out yourself.
