Sundown nat'l park - Red Rock George & Girraween out back of
Stanthorpe It's not called the Granite Belt for nothing! Loads of tracks at all levels, plenty of creeks/water holes/waterfalls/lakes/rivers and kids love it. Old mines, spectacular views, wildlife, brilliant trip. Go for a weekend and do wineries as well. If you don't want to camp in national park, there are plenty of camp grounds with facilities in the area. Straddie is also a great trip, but not much of a challenge, since they closed the trig station track. Beautiful place though and worth a weekend. See if you can find a public dunny with a view. Fresh water in land at one of the lakes (
blue lake-4wd, brown lake 2wd). there is also a turn in about 5k down from Main beach entry that lets you into a nice little lake and desert area, generated by the overflow of the sand mines. (shh, its a secret) Good
fishing gutter out front too and bait on beach.
