Electronic Mosquito Repellents

Hi

Has anyone had any practical experience with the various electronic mozzie gizmos to repel mozzies ? I'm not talking about bug zappers but the kind that emit high pitch sounds to repel mozzies.

For example, Australian Geographic sell one :

And I've seen others that emit sounds like dragonflies etc that are supposed to send the mozzies packing.

I'm highly skeptical that these things work but would be delighted to hear from people who claim then do (brand/model etc)

I'm aware of many commerical products (eg bushman, repel) and home grown lotions (dettol/eucalytus, metho/black tea) and vitamin B overdosing, but I'm specifically interested in the electonic gizmo experiences.

I remember seeing these things for the first time 30 years ago, small yellow boxes tradies wore on their belts, adjust the pitch to that of the mozzie to scare them away. Didn't work then and I don't believe would work now. Stick to the tropical strength lotions, just don't use them all the time as they can be hazardous to some people when used continually over extended periods. Don't normally like to post negative responses but wouldn't want you to waste your money on someone else's crap.

Part of my job is vector control. At a conference in Brissy last year a scientist guy who had done a lot of research on electronic insect repellents told us they couldn't find any proof at all that any of them worked.Make plans... not excuses.

Hi Moose, Vector Control is basically killing mossies and other critters to control the spread of (or vectoring of) disease as opposed to pest control that cleans up annoying pests like ants sandflies etc.Make plans... not excuses.
