Hi
Just about ready to head up north for the winter, we are heading to Mt Isa via Bourke, Charleville,Blackall, Barcaldine and Longreach. Looking for any info on the hot spas and free camps along the route. We usually travel via Moree and Roma and take advantage of the hot spas on that route. This year doing something different, from Mt Isa then to darwin and Broome and down the west coast. We tow a 23ft van with an F250.
Would appreciate any info.
Look foward to the replies
Thanks in advance
Margaret

Not sure if this book will help but it covers quite a few hot springs around oz. My aim is one day to have swam in each spring in the book. I've already started with a few.

Margaret,

There's a spa at Mitchell, which you may know about, but that'll be out of your way this trip.

Think there is one at Blackall too, at the Wool Scour (???). Not aware of any further up, as many of the towns have "cooled" down their bores, for use in the town.

Once you get to the Kimberly, there are many springs up there, and the water is similar to soda water, in taste, but minus the bubbles. You might get the same effect there. El Questro has a few nice spots, to get the sap effect.

When I was a kid, the parents & I went to the Moree baths. All segregated in those days, and spent a couple of hours soaking up the hot bore water. Drove out about 30km. made camp, and had a feed, then promptly all "died" for about 12 hours. Very therapuetic!

Enjoy your trip,

Bob. Thumbs UpThanks 0

Hello Margaret,

Thanks follow-up. Have recently found out that there is a hot spa at Ilfracombe too. Think it's at the swimming pool.

Muttaburra has a new spa incorporated with the swimming pool , water temp regulated between 32c + 36c , the town artesian bore comes out of the ground at a constant 60c so needs cooling to prevent scalding.
