A vehicle's bull bar, sides steps and rails are known as its "bar work"....
Hi all,

On Wednesday, we picked up our 2012 GXL Landcruiser 200 V8, and decided to
put on a bullbar. Rang ARB and was told that they do not make Bullbars for the 2012 Landcruiser yet and only Toyota have bullbars for the 2012 Landcruisers.

Our neighbour is a panelbeater and said he would order the bullbar for us and
will fit it as well. He was told that the bullbar will fit the 2012 GLX Landcruiser 200.

So the Bullbar arrived on Friday, and today he started to fit the bullbar......

After he cutting away the required amount of plastic on the bumper bar as per the templet in the instructions, the bullbar still did not fit...so we decided as he had already cut the bumper bar, he would cut a but more away and hope it would fit. No so...

So we contacted the local Toyoto dealership and explained that we could not get the bullbar to fit, and he advised us that Toyoto had changed the bumper bar on the 2012 models.

So our question is has anyone fitted a Toyota Bullbar on a 2012 GXL lANDCRUISER 200, and if so how did you do it!!

Cheers Laurie

Why not fit the Genuine Toyota Bar rather than the ARB bar?

I reckon the genuine bullbars look pretty ordinary - I'd go for the ARB or TJM bar for the 200 series.

The arb bar certainly looks much better than the genuine Toyota one....does arb no longer make the genuine Toyota bars or is someone else making them now ?

Dennis, from what I can gather, it is the genuine toyota bar he has tried to fit and it isnt working ?? I had to read it a couple of times but the way Im reading it he tried ARB they dont have one so his mate ordered the toyota bar which he was told would fit and obviously its not fitting like they were told it would ?? So Laurie what part of it isnt fitting up properly ?? You say that toyota changed it for the 2012 model so maybe the bar you have is for the 2011 ?? Should be a tag/sticker of some form on the bar indicating model number, air bag compatibilty and year model etc it will fit ?? Every bar I have had has had these details on it. If toyota is saying they changed the bar then they must have changed some thing on the chssis or some thing on the 2012 model which is stopping the bar from fitting presuming its a bar suited to an 2011 200 series. Doubt they would have changed the chassis in any way but maybe brackets are different or some thing ?? only guessing here...............

Hi Kimba 10,

From memory in the instructions is said from 2007 or 2009 up..

The bull bar does not seem to come out far enough to wrap around the
corners of the original bumper bar, and the pressure wants to pop the side panel, which we do not want to happen.

Laurie,

This is a Toyota bar fitted to a 2012 GX. The new base model.

From what I could see the bumper was not cut at all as the Toyota bull bar was fitted over the original bumper.

This was a loan vehicle from Toyota so that we go across the Simpson Desert in March this year.

Driving lights roof rack and winch were also supplied by Toyota.

Wayne in March 2012 they did a face lift for the 200 series..... anything prior the March 2012 release had the old design.

ARB are still in development with a new bar, most new models usually have a 6 month lead time for design and testing once a new model has been released.

Hi Laurie

You will need to be a member of LCOOL to read that thread, but as a 200 owner, a good idea to join - its free. The summary is that while the chassis has not changed, the front bumper profile has and the 2007-2011 ARB bar will no longer fit properly. It can be put on the chassis, but the profile of the changed bumper means the existing ARB bar will not fit properly.

However, the new ARB bar is well done the design process and can be ordered (part numbers have been issued) but delivery is unknown (likley 6 weeks, that was 2 weeks ago). Also, the TJM bar will fit as it involves the removal of the whole front bumper, hence its design was not affected by the model changed.

Cheers

After reading the posts above sounds like the bar you have isnt the right one and your mate has an argument about to happen with who ever supplied him the bar, and sounds like you might have to go an ARB bar (total replacement, if available) so as to remove the factory bumper bar totally unless you lucky enough for the new design factory toyota bar to cover the excess cutting it sounds like your mate has done. No offence to you mate but he should have stopped cutting the original bar when it first didnt fit and then should have been asking questions instead of continuing to cut it back different from the template. Thats what templates are for.........Hope you get it sorted, nothing worse then cutting into a brand new 4wd for the part not to fit correctly. Unless the new toyota bar fits and covers whats been cut you will be up for a new original bumper bar from what I can make out plus painting ......................Unless the ARB is a total replacement ?? I have no idea if the ARB bar it total replacment or not
