There are very few reasonable hotels near the city in Sydney, just like Rome.

I suggest you look at hotels on railway lines into Sydney. Hotels at Parramatta are much cheaper and a 1/2 hour train trip to Sydney city.

You could try the Novatel Sydney Olympic Park. Top site seeing at the door step and central to everything you are looking for. Train Station opposite the front door to all destination. Great entertainment on site. Check out their web site.

If you are staying in Sydney for more than 2 days then try the real estate agents in North Sydney (just across the bridge.) Back in the 90s I used to travel there for conferences and training. Motels in Nth Sydney were $120 per night. Century 21 R/E had short term accommodation (bed/sit) for $55 per night and a once off $30 cleaning fee.

That's an interesting concept Peter.
Do RE Agents still do that ?
I guess it's in unleased rental properties.

Clever idea.

Hey, I wonder if the landlords know about it................

Not really.Back then they had many units on their books for short term lease. The basic rate for them was $45 (0r $55 if they had a harbour view) for bed sitters. For bigger units the cost increased by $20 per bed room.

No matter where you go it is worth checking with the local real estate agents. When talking to our neighbours in the Pambula Beach CP I asked about the ankle biters who kept appearing with them. They said that they did not have then with them, their parents were up on the hill with great views over the ocean in a house that cost half the price of a park cabin - they got it through a local real estate agent.
