Just noticed a couple of threads posted back in January, so here is our summation of our Conqueror
We picked up our Conqueror last June and took it on the Ann Beadell from Coober Pedy to Kalgoorlie.
March this year, we travelled to Flinders Ranges, Oodnadatta track to Mt Dare, Binns Track to Alice, Tanami Track to Halls Creek, Broome to Pt Hedland, into Marble Bar via the dirt, karajini National Park, back to Marble Bar, Telfer Mine track.. to Well 33, Punmu, Kintore, etc to Alice, down to Coober Pedy, then on the dirt to Kingoonya, Ceduna, Eyre Peninsular and back to Shepparton, Victoria [total 10,100kms this trip, travel time around 5 weeks]
heaps of pluses, a couple of glitches, however, rest assured , that the after sales service from Conqueror Aust is first class.
BIG PLUSES---pantry, fold out bed, kitchen, suspension, towing gear, toughness[we were on some REAL rough tracks]shower, storage and accessibility.
We will discuss a couple of minor glitches with the team, a bit of dust in bottom storages coming into the trailer, but not enough probs to worry about.
Our UEV490 includes the fire grill , a must, we converted the vanity to hold our Coleman hot water gear [at their cost ],an Engel fridge, full annexe [handy for the family holidays at Bright ] the dining table, LED lights, but not the television!
Real happy to recommend the trailer as a "no compromise" unit full of features, as we wanted the "cross over" style of trailer that would not restrict where we wanted to go.
Will sleep mum, dad and 2 kids in comfort, however you will be a little restricted!!
By the way, expect a few inspections on the track, as the trailer is still of interest to most travellers.
Next year , back to the Eyre Peninsular, the year after, Broome via Birdsville, but that's another story.
cheers all
Geoff

Well Geoff, you have made me turn a very ugly shade of green. I have only just heard about the UEV490 in the last month and have already put it on the wish list. It's a shame, I passed thru Shep a week 1/2 ago and would have loved to have had a squiz at it in the flesh. Guess I will just have to wait until next yrs Caravan & Camping show. Do let us know of all the pros and cons that you have come across and some pics would be nice.
Cheers

I too have a Conqueror UEV490 (18 months) and have travelled more than 45000kms majority of which is on dirt with a large proportion of that in definite off-road environment

Cannot say enough about the Conqueror - and agree with after sales service from Dan and his boys in Brisbane (nationally Opposite Lock)

Currently in Sydney staying with a mate for a few days but on Friday (11th May) I will be heading 'sort of' North - probably towards Barrington Tops initially but with the plan of getting to Cape York by mid to late June

If you want to see where I have been and where I am currently I have a SPOT tracking page set up where you can go back over my trip (use the drop down on the left hand side of the page)

I have posted a few pics here

You guys are still making me jealous, those are great pics. I'm not a serious 4x4 person yet....... but just like the look and toughness of that rig.

I'll be getting one before I die for sure now.

Hi geoff love the UEV490. I looked at them in 2009 and posted asking the question about them the reply was THEN don't touch them But as always I listened and missed out on a great camper for only $ 30k about my bad luck

The people that said not to touch them, had probably never seen one, let alone had first hand experience! Too many armchair experts with fear of the unknown.

hi Geoff,
Can you tell us more about the conqueror, we are seriously considering selling our big New Age Jewel later this year, its just so big to tow around. fantastic van though, so much storage, and that brings me to it, storage, where do you put everything?
is there storage behind the spare wheel? can you put solars on the roof.
And how long does it take to set up the awnings.
How big is the vanity you had removed, can that store a 1kva generator?
Looking forward to seeing one in November at the 4x4 show in Perth.
cheers in advance for anything you could add

Pete

Hi Pete,
can't say enough about the Conqueror, we put into some tough spots on our trip and other than a little dust, it was unstoppable.
We store clothes and other usual camping needs in the multitude of pockets within the trailer and on the floor whitch has unique tie down points.
There is no need to store behind the wheel, however get the griller that fits over the spare, very useful whejn cooking over a fire
We carry an 80 watt ARB solar panel, independant of the trailer and use an Anderson plug to clip onto the trailer. We find this to be pretty handy to get the best sun advantage.
With 2 people who know their jobs without talking about what to do, the front bed is about 5 minutes from go to sleep ready, the side awning about 5/7 minutes, the walls about another 15 to 20.
The front bed/awnings needs some practice to get to the times that I am talking about, however.
The vanity area takes a Coleman hot water unit, 2/3 spare gas canisters and our towels to pad out the storage.
We find this very handy, it should store the generator.
A good feature is that if you are travelling in a bit of heat, the water storage will heat up to simply turn on the cold water shower that comes with the camper.
Modifications:
we inserted a steel tray in the fridge area to carry our 40 litre Engel
We attached a hose/tap arrangement to the passenger side front locker for aotomatic shower bucket filler, using the water pump.
Conqueror are always keen to hear of our experiences and modifications, and are a great help.
We also like the fact that if you pull up in foul weather, you simply open the door and set up your bed using the internal table/seat arrangements, no folding out canvas etc.
We looked at a number of brands, they all had excellent points, however, we had a price, the fold out/ non fold out options suited us, the kithen and pantry can not be matched for convenience and the 2 rear lockers store all our cooking gear and the annexes.
Dry food storage bins can either go on the floor or in the back of the mighty Nissan Patrol Turbo Diesal!
I hope that this info helps, Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
thanks for all the info, we are still undecided which van to go for the Commander Conqueror or the Kavango, both have plus and minuses going for them.
Just love the slideout shower on the kavango and the kitchen seems to be a bit more organised too, but the Conqueror Commander has wider beds, so we dont have to have the bed made up, keeping the singles with table in-between. just fall in at the end of the days travelling.
The kavango's awning looks a bit flimsy too, but the white interior with lots of LED's looks more inviting. It also has the webasto diesel heater. The Commander from SA has the Hanson gas hws and no space heating.
Choices choices, has anyone out there got a Kavango and make any comments please.
Would love to hear from you.
We need a sturdy annexe/awning as we camp on beaches most of the time, and have to endure high winds.
Cheers
Pete

Hi Geoff,
Another ? for you, and thanks for answering the previous.
Interior is it dark and gloomy, especially when the toilet tent is up?
As it covers the only window apart from the ones in the pop up roof section.
When its raining and all zipped up the ventilation could be a problem or have you not found this.
The imported ones from SA do not have the zip up midge door screens, anyone know where they come from?
cheers

Hi Geoff,
Great to see your post! and that you are loving your Conqueror as much as we do. (We met you in Berwick when you had a look at our UEV490 last year!). We are heading off to Cape York in 4 weeks with the kids and can't wait! - You have done some great trips since we last chatted at the 4x4 show.

Those that are interested in the Conqueror, what can I say, it's everything that you see. Robust and reliable, comfortable, great storage (I have 2 kids and can't fill it!); everything is simple, smart and it works. There is nothing too complicated or fancy that you can't fix it yourself if the need did arise.

The annexe goes up quick and easy. I love the pantry and the built in large aluminium table. I also love that before a trip I can get inside and pack without having to set up.

It's great having access to the kitchen, fridge and pantry at lunch time without having to set up (a feature that not every trailer has). We found the guys at Conqueror Australia genuine and easy to talk to.

Don't let the armchair critics influence you, have a look for yourself.
Tess.

Hi Tess,
very envious of your plans.
We have put "Willie', the Conqueror into storage for the winter, except the Queens Birthday long weekend to Ulupna Island on the Murray River, a beautiful spot.
Next year our plans are Bright for our usual family Christmas break, then 3 weeks around the Eyre Peninusular then perhaps to part of the Anne Beadell Track from the Nullabor Roadhouse to Cook and Poeppels Corner, then over to WA.
The Anne Beadell track continues to lure us back, even with the corrugations!
Note, the ABT from Coober Pdey to Poeppels is definately for the adventuresome!
The following year, back to Broome via Birdsville and north to Kunanuura and GRR. Around 7 to 8 weeks for that one!
The Conqueror does everything we want from it, we slept 4 adults in it over night at Ulupna, no problems at all.
Prue and Geoff
