Borroloola to Burketown Aug2012 conditions? need snorkel?

We're planning a trip from Darwin to Cairns via Borroloola/Burketown in August 2012. We've got a LR D3 and just wondering whether to fit a snorkel or not (we're on a bit of a tight budget with accessories).

If anyone has travelled the road recently what's the condition like and in particular the water level at the major crossings?

Hi Pennys,
I have always fitted snorkels to all my 4x4's I find them more valuable for allowing clean air into the engine on dusty roads especially Diesels. You have the added bonus if you do come across some water.

G/day pennys.
We're travelling, in early June, the track from Normanton to Katherine via Burketown, Borroloola and Roper Bar. Keep an eye on Forum through June, as we will be posting a few updates of our trip and will include details of road conditions etc along the way. Be titled The Last Frontier.
I would be very suprised if you were to need a snorkel fitted to your Disco for water crossings along this road at the time of year you plan to travel. As mentioned before, a snorkel does aid in the supply of cleaner, less dusty air to your engine though.

at the moment the deepest water is under 300mm deep, if there is no more rain you may not even see any water by then and it is un-likely we will get any rain by then, road is really good at the moment but seeing nearly double the tourists this year, very busy road ...
