Jas,

My experience has been that $25 to $30 per night for a powered site, probably around $5 to $10 less for unpowered.

When we travel, we try and only stay in a caravan site roughly every third night (to top up the water tank, do the washing and have a loooooong hot shower).

One rule which you can trust is that the more you pay for a site does not guarantee you a better site - often cheaper is better.

Hi Peter

I would say that those prices would be towards the lower end of the scale for fully serviced caravan parks, depending on the area. We choose rural areas and find these cheaper than larger towns and coastal resort type areas,

Likewise we go to caravan parks occasionally for a decent shower (we have our own small bathroom) and to do the laundry, although we can tour long term without doing so.

I have also found caravan parks that only have unpowered tent sites with all caravan sites being powered. Some will give us a discount for not using power, but for others they charge a flat powered rate as they say they cannot monitor the honesty.

If you want a budget trip then keep away from the popular places on the coast. Expect to pay over $40 for places like Broome, Sunshine and Gold Coast or capital cities. You don't have to go far from the coast for prices to drop a bit. Also you will get prices in the $30 - 40 range if you cross the border from the Gold Coast.

There are still plenty of sites under $20 inland with the majority being in the $20 plus range. There are plenty of camp grounds in out of the way places $15 and under. There are also gems that are free but make a charge for power or showers (coin in the slot.)

You have asked a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" type question. Go to Badgers Australian Caravan Park Reports and research the route you plan to travel.

Did a trip April 10 to April 11 budgeted on $32 per night but with 2 /3 nights per week free camping easily achieved that, BUT prices have gone up by about 10/15% minimum so I would now budget on $35 to $38 bearing in mind you could pay between $45 to $25 but it must be taken over the full 6 months trip.

The prices that have been quoted are for a couple, most places especially in the more expensive locations will charge extra for each kid, even infants which can push it up to a much higher fee.
Many coastal locations charge $80 a night in holiday periods plus kids!

Go for council run van parks if possible. Normally $20 to $30 and very clean.

FUEL is going to be the big cost in any trip.

Show grounds are usually priced about $20 or less. They have water and power connections and are usually in good locations.
