Hi All ,
Gramps and I did a day trip to the Coxs River with some great input from guys that had travelled down that track before . When we went in , Gramps ( Al ) and I made GPS marks on the important or less obvious junctions .
We took the
Jenolan Caves road about 1 klm west of Hartley and about 10 klm from Mt Victoria . We ignored the turn off to
Oberon and headed straight towards
the Caves until we turned left onto the firetrail .
These are the waypoints :

Return to cattle yard and veer right down

33 , 43.270 S and 150 , 09.744 E Straight through

33 , 42.962 S and 150 , 09.735 E Straight thru

33 , 42.365 S and 150 , 09.610 E Veer right
33 , 37.818 S and 150 , 08.226 E Straight ahead
33 , 34.154 S and 150 , 12.375 E Exited the Cox’s River Road onto the Great Western Highway, about 5ks from Mt Victoria .
When we reached the Coxs River we found a
camp ground with eco-
toilets and a
water tank . I gather these are there for the benefit of walkers doing the Six Foot Track . We also noted that there was a sign at the top of the big drop down to the river , which advised that the trail was only to be used by authorized tour vehicles and that there was a
locked gate further down (about 3 to 4ks) in front of which it was impossible to turn around . We did not find the latter information to be true (on this occasion).
It is important to note that this trail with it’s many blind corners , is in constant use by walkers doing the Six Foot Track , and care needs to be taken to avoid accidents .
The Coxs River was not flowing when we were there and it was not a pleasant place in the heat of summer in drought conditions . I would suggest to any people doing this run that it is best in the winter months .
The track was fairly straight forward and required 4WD . There were a few steep sections with slippery sandy gravel where Al had to let his tyres down a bit to get up .
A highly recommended winter day trip from
Sydney .
