As promised I have taken photos while fitting a
snorkel to my 100 series TD.
1 : First take the plastic under guard off, then take the end of the filter box off.
2 : Take the indicator light out.
3 : Place the template over the guard and tape on, with a marker pen mark the points where you have to drill the holes.
4 : Drill a pilot hole first, then drill the holes for the holding studs to 15mm, then using a 95mm hole saw, drill the 2 holes for the
snorkel to fit. Once you have drilled these holes you can take a cutting disc and a 4 inch grinder and trim the excess between the holes, then with a die grinder chamfer the edges. After this put on some paint to prevent rust.
5 : Once this is done you can put the studs in the
snorkel, place the
snorkel in place, then mark the holes for the bracket to hold the top of the
snorkel, remove the
snorkel and place the bracket on your marks, then mark the holes for the screws.
Drill holes for screws using 7mm drill bit, tap in plugs for the screws.
6 : Once the bracket is secure you can then replace the
snorkel and bolt it into place. The top nut is a bugger to do and a ratchet spanner is the way to go.
7 : When the
snorkel is in place put the rubber joining boot on as far as possible. This will help later. Take the piece from the end of the filter box and cut a grove in the end that will be joined by the rubber boot, then using some silicon, replace the filter box end.
8 : Put the two hose clamps over the rubber boot, then pull rubber boot over the end of the filter box and do up hose clamps.
9 : Replace plastic under guard, put the
snorkel ram on the top, then with a beer in one hand stand back and admire handiwork.
