Water tanks

Good news to pass on. I cannot see that these tanks have been mentioned on the forum before so thought I'd stick a post in the data base.
I've been looking for suitable means to carry extra water for those occasional remote trips when you've gotta have that extra. The cost of S/S tanks I thought rediculous on a $ / litre basis, + permanent additional weight, underfloor hard to flush and have to be pressurised to be efficient. Also act as additional flotation in deep water crossings if not filled.
Then there are metal jerry cans which can be racked on the back or on roof. On the roof tanks need only be filled only at the last top up stop & need to be emptied first to reduce top weight, these should be really well secured.
The blue plastic jerry-can type bottles are great because they are light and cheap, again only need to fill to your requirements at the last top up stop. If carried on top put carpet or like under bottle to save damage. They are easily carried inside because they are soft and light.
Flexible (collapsible) water tanks fitted inside down low can be built into a retaining frame and hold large quantities in awkward areas, but line area with old carpet to prevent abrasions, they are only gravity feed outlet.
Now here's the good bit. I had a look at a particular 4x4 brand 55 litre that sold for $211 & an 85 Lt that was $293 & thought that a bit exy.
However found a 100 Lt flexy for $109.oo. Now thats a lot of water but you don't have to fill it up. It can be stored on top as the tank is inside an outer protective UV cover, strong tie down points & excellent quality.
The suppliers are Whitworths Marine and there are a range of sizes. The brand is Turtle-pac. They also make flexi fuel tanks. Check WWW.
My view is that they are light and easy to store when not in use & cheap.

A friend had these fitted into the side panels of his L/C 100 series. After a few rough roads, the inside panels started to bulge out from the pressure of the water sacs. Certainly looked strange! Don't know if they were the same brand as above. Great idea otherwise.

There is no Turtle-pac pic in the [Whitworths] online catalogue. You can sign up free for their mail order catalogue.
They have a huge range of gear, mostly marine oriented, but if it suits the salt & sun it'll suit the scrub.
They have a good mail order system - I'm lucky as there is one store 5 min from home.
But also view the Turtle-pac site for their range of products but buy through Whitworths.
I should be on a commission for this crowd.
