gu rear vibration

Hi can anyone help? Just bought a 2000 gu Patrol auto 3.0 td. I used to own a gq petrol/gas auto. When we were looking to buy i test drove a lot of gu's and it struck me that all the td's seem to have a slight but annoying vibration in the drivetrain somewhere that you feel through the accelerator. Is this normal for a td or was that i was just used to the petrol motor. Also now i have found that there is another vibration coming from the rear end just as you take off under load. Its worse if you take off around a corner. The third thing is the pulsing brake pedal.I think someone has maybe drove it through a puddle when the discs were hot or something. Any idea what a new set of discs would cost? I dont think i can machine them straight again can i? The cars immaculate otherwise but the warranty runs out in 2 months and i want to fix these things. Thanks.

Impossible to remote diagnose, but sounds like a worn universal joint on the rear shaft. The disc rotors may be salvagable, but you will need to have them measured correctly. Factor $200 per side for replacement aftermarket discs.

The shudder in the rear that seems to be worse when going around a corner sounds like the LSD is locking when is shouldn't. Get some additive and add it to the diff it should free up. Only need to do the treatment once and it seem to last for ever. Had this problem with my 1998 gu 2.8tdi.

The vibration will be the LSD - if you use Penrite Limslip 140 (not 95-140) it will cure the vibration and your LSD will work to its maximum potential (and best of all its a reccomend oil for the Patrol LSD) If you still have a problem the at least you will have inexpensivly eliminated the most common cause of such vibrations and maximised the life of your LSD.
The disks are good on gu's try checking the bearings etc and machining 1st. - again the 2 cheapest and most logical things to check. It doesnt take much to feel a warp in the disk. It does take a lot to warp them I have found.
Good luck

LSD oil is self depleting which means the additives in the oil get used up which causes the shudder, penrite is the best oil and should be changed every 20,000ks, this recommendation from a diff specialist, also nissan LSD diffs are the best and stongest of the most common 4x4s. The disks may be able to be machined which can be done on the car. Col
