Lorella Springs We have arrived!
Last night we camped by a creek on the side of the road, we pulled in after dark and was worried that we would not find a
spot
to camp but God was looking after us as a family we had met at
Kingfisher Camp
(
Ross
had helped him fix his car) stood on the track and guided us into a
spot
next to them and helped us set up.
Next morning we set off together for Lorella Springs, the road was very corrugated but not as bad as on the Cape. We drove in about 10 o'clock and quickly found a super camp
spot
. We decided that night we were the King and Queen overlooking our subjects.
I made a bee line for the springs for a swim it was delightful! Swimming in warm water surrounded by pandanus palms and water lillies.
Ross
as usual did his hunter and gatherer bit and went looking for firwood sowe could have a campfire that night. The stars were so
bright
and
Ross
played his Low D whistle and it was so peaceful.
Damien, Sophie and their two children visited our campfirre and made arrangements to travel around tomorrow to see a lot of the sights. We headed off about 9 o'clock and we had another
young
couple and their children joined us as well. I think I just attract children who need a surrogate grandmother. Our first port of call was Monarch Rock which we all climbed, we found quite a few snake skins, a small cave with micro bats in it. Then off we went again through a few water crossings which
Ross
enjoyed, the next place to visit was Flying Fox Swamp which was OK, we then headed off to
Spot
X which is where you are supposed to catch a Barra, well that didn't happen. We all had lunch there while the boys played at catching a Barra.
Ross
got to play with one of his toys he had to buy for the trip, a winch. A man backed his car into a big whole and couldn't get out so
Ross
to the rescue. He loved it.
We headed off to Nudie Springs for our first swim of the day as we couldn't swim anywhere else because of crocs!! Clothing is optional at this springs, we were lucky we were the only peole there. I didn't think they were as nice as the ones at the camp grond. The next place we visited made up for it The Water Slide which was a natural water slide down a big rock face. Also there was a plunge pool at the top of the slide, it was quite cool but nice, ther was a rock ledge you could swim onto and
Ross
thought he was something out of Seaworld and acted like a dolphin or something.
Well after great deliberation we decided we would drive the 80ks out to Rosie Camp and see if we could catch a Barra. Didn't but did see a huge groper who lives in the water in front of the camp and gets all the fishermen to feed it. As we were so close we decided to drive right out to the coast of the Gulf. Burke and Wills must have had some determination to walk right out to the coast as there is so many salt pans and mangroves up there.
