Saturday 24/1/09
at BP Grafton
at BP Grafton

after everyone was up and about we headed off towards Grafton to meet up with the others at the BP truck stop.fuel, ice and last minute supplies were bought here and after a hello to everyone else we headed off.we trundled off towards Copmanhurst,up past the head of the Clarence River called the Gorge and heading towards Washpool National Park.Along the way Brad (our guide for the weekend) gave us a history lesson on the place. We drove passed a place called the Ugilbar C castle ( which is an house designed just like a castle in which the head of the Myer store chain owns). He has his own landing strip for his plane.

Another village we drove through is Baryugil (known for the home town of Anthony Mundine).
Upon arrival we set up camp and then were ready for the Malara Fire Trail.

About an hours drive through the mountains we arrived at the Malara Fire Trail. Please enjoy this video.

Part 2 or the video series.

Throughout our trip we had numerous creek crossings which were just deep enough for those without snorkels to traverse.

On Saturday afternoon we headed to the small village of Drake. Here we enjoyed some of the best pub food you will find anywhere. Some members had to depart at this stage for home.We thanked them for their participation and they left. Some other members decided to head back to camp while the rest of us enjoyed our meal. This is when a big storm rolled in and dumped deluge of rain on us.

We headed off from Drake about 6pm towards camp.we took a different path home. What we didn't know at the time was the way we went back was directly where the storm had ravaged its fury.By the time we had cleared all the trees off the road its was 10.00pm that night b4 we hit camp.

All part of the weekend we told ourselves :-) We got back to camp to find some of our gear had been wet due to the storm, but the guys who left Drake early had tidied up b4 we arrived, cheers to those guys who helped, thank you.

Sunday 25/1/ 09

Breaky time rolled around, dried some gear out and said goodbye to a few who headed home today. It was the time for the rest of us to explore for the day.Brad took us up to the falls in Washpool, not b4 checking out an old abandoned gold mine and village.Brad is a guru on history in this area (is there anything he doesn't know about this place)?
Upon arrival at the falls we were treated to an amazing site, this place is truly beautiful!!

Hey Mark looks like i missed a good w/end ,but they are the breaks. Looks like a lot of fun for all that attended.A few spots where the F250 may have struggled due to the extra wheelbase though.
The blog you have put together is great also.
Maybe i will be able to get to the next one.
Cheers Bob.
