Diary for the New Truck

I've been looking around ExplorOz for a while since I bought the new Prado. The old one took all the fittings with it of course, and I'm in shock as I plan to make the new one travel proof.

Have decided to keep a few notes here about my preparation and decisions about the new equipment, and then the trip planning and a few photos. It's mostly for me but naturally, if anything is useful, interesting or enjoyable to fellow Members, then that's just fine.

First thing was to have a tow bar fitted, and some protective mats put in. Next, I looked around for bush tyres and after plenty of reading and talking to folk, went back to my third set of BFG All Terrains.

At present, ARB is fitting a bull bar, UHF radio, snorkel, OME shocks and rear Air Locker. That's plenty for a start.

Next quandary is about batteries - whether to fit a deep cycle which wouldn't be very big as there isn't safe mounting on the mud guard in the engine compartment, or go for a BlueApple Thumper. The latter seems a flexible option. Any opinions?

Starting to get excited about travelling again now. Haven't been away in the Truck for about two years and I've got the yearning.

Ros,

Looking for some new tyres for my Prado and wonder what wheel / tyre size combo you have fitted.

Hi GNK...
I bought BFG All terrain tyres again in the end. The specs were LT 265/70 R17. This is the third set of off-road tyres I've bought and I thought that this would be an opportunity to look around at other brands - Coopers, Goodyear. I came to the same conclusion as before. With these LT tyres, you can get a bit of scrubbing inside the front wheel well on full lock, especially as the suspension starts to "relax" a bit. I've put new shocks on the car which has prevented the scrubbing.
Hope this helps a bit.
