 Spare wheel carrier modified

Submitted: Thursday, Jul 31, 2008 at 07:36
Good job done yesterday. With the new tyres, the rear wheel carrier is too shallow to take the extra width so a spacer is required. Ben at WideTread put wheel nuts on as temporary spacers but warned me that they placed great pressure on small areas and would break the carrier eventually, especially on rough roads.

I bought a nylon chopping board from K-mart and cut two circles 180 mm diameter. I glued them together and cut a 90 mm circle out of the centre. Drilled three holes to fit the studs and replaced the tyre over the perfect spacer. I love my jig-saw! What a pain this would have been without it. Pleased to have that job-ette out of the way!
