Thanks Mike - it has been a long time planning and will cover a lot of the iconic 4WD trips of Australia in one hit. We've also been pining to return to the Kimberleys after our last visit a couple of years ago - it is so idyllic! We are also looking forward to spending a lot of it offroad and remote, away from the madding crowds! Let's hope that we and the gear are up to it...will keep the blog going every day we have access to the internet...Mike

Hi,
I reckon you're all going to have a great trip. What you have on your done list sounds like my dream list.
We're heading off 29 July from near Sydney for 6 weeks. From here to Bourke, Bedourie, Alice for the first week. From Alice we're heading west on the Gary Junction Hwy to 80 Mile Beach and a couple of days at Port Smith to rest. Up to Broome and Cape Leveque before moving on to The Gibb River Road and Kunnunurra. From there we head back to Alice Springs before travelling through either the Colson Track or the Hay River Track onto The Simpson. Through The Simpson to Birdsville for the Races and then dawdle home through Innaminka and Tibooburra.
We have an 80 series diesel, set up for outback touring with a Shipp Shape tent on top. Just got ot get some new tyres (probably Wrangler Duratracs again) and throw in the fridge.
Can't wait!!!
Have fun,

Sounds wonderful. We are in Australind (Bunbury) and travel/camp with our 11, 8, 6, and 5 year olds. We won't be doing 'the big one' for a couple more years but we will look forward to hearing of your adventures. Have a great time!

Hi Guys, sounds like a great trip with huge variety the kids should love and get a lot out of. A good book to have the kids research for Cape York is "A Savage Frontier", by Rodney Lidell. Don't worry too much about the first chapter but most history teachers in Australia have never heard of Frank Jardin. Some fascinating stories in the cape. SS America, SS quetta, Wini of Badu, treasure from the cyclone and lots more. I would suggest you edit the research.
Look forward to reading more over the coming months.
