Central Australia Adventure June 2012, day 28 and back home.15/07/12
On the road this morning and it's raining again, at least most of the mud we collected from the Oodnandatta track will get washed off.
As I drove that last stretch I thought about the last 4 weeks and how fast it had gone by, I couldn't help but think that in a couple of hours we would be back home and it would be all over.
We had travelled 6500k through four states, we had seen some amazing sights, met some interesting people, both good and bad, and we learnt a great deal about the Australian outback, its amazing history and legends, and its colorful inhabitants, human and animal.
We travelled roads that were great and some that we're not so great, learnt what corrogations , ruts, bull dust holes, and stones can do for your comfort levels and how they can damage car and trailer.
We also discovered that you have to be prepared to make route changes along the way, be it because of changing road conditions, weather, finding a place to visit that you didn't know about, or time constraints.
All in all it was an amazing holiday and I think we all have the bug now, before arriving home we had already worked out some options for our next adventure, what we need to do in regards to car and trailer mods, and how we would do things differently next time around.
Anyway This time next year we will head off again, not sure where exactly, but where ever it turns out to be if it turns to be half as good as this trip we will be laughing.
