*DAY 24 to 38*
Left Burnie to drive east along the coast road, and found an absolute lovely town named Penguin which to be honest is our favourite town so far in Tassie. The beautiful spring flowers outside each house was such a lovely sight to see. Took the touristy photo next to the 3 metre penguin that was erected to commemorate the town's centenary in 1975. It's as old as me! The town also has a lovely little rainforest walk to Thoresby's Tunnel. Another great spot is the Braddon's Lookout in Leith, which shows the stunning views of the coast line and of Forth Valley. We were lucky enough to stay in Port Sorell for a few days in a friends parents granny flat....ohhhh luxury for us! The area is superb and well worth a look. And if you ever come to the area, you must go to Aqua as the fish & chips are the best we've ever had. We watched the Melbourne Cup race at a hotel pub in Shearwater, and was exhilarated by the close race as I can imagine alot of other people would have been too. Took a day trip to Narawntapu National Park and along the windie hilly gravel road to Beaconsfield and was quite surprised that the actual mine is right in the centre of the town. Geez it was cold in Beaconsfield. Bernie has been fishing everyday so he is a happy chappy. Speaking of Bernie, I have a funny story. While driving thru the Narawntapu National Park it had big puddles from recent rain on the gravel roads so he drove thru one big puddle thinking he was funny to splash the car, but the joke was on him when he didn't realised his car window was open so he got drenched with muddy water. Geez I wish I had filmed it on the Go-Pro video camera. That same day we saw a horse in a paddock by itself having a great ole time playing with a stick in his mouth (similar to what a dog would do), so funny and cute at the same time. Did a few day trips from Port sorell and one of my favourites was driving thru Latrobe, Railton, & Sheffield which included the "town of topiary", "town of murals", a brewery, and a freakishily amazing shop called Reliquine. On the way to Launceston is a town called Carrick which is just off the highway, the local pub (3rd oldest pub in Oz) is definately a place to stop to get a bit of history about Sammy Cox who they think was the first white person to land and live in Australia and even lived with Aborigines for 27 years, and died at 117. On our wedding anniversary weekend Bernie was lucky enough to go hunting, fishing, and riding. He was in his element, and we also fitted in a nice romantic dinner in that same weekend.
