Ayers Rock Resort camping ground, 21 & 22/9/11

First impressions of this camp ground was that it is huge. Fortunately the sites are large and we are not crammed on like sardines. Our original site was opposite two school groups. Paula went back to reception and asked for another option. Thank God for that, we were offered another site about 200m away, and as time would tell, they were very very noisy, even at 4.30am!!!!!!!
Due to annual burn off in N.T there is a lot of smoke haze as well as dust from the wind in the atmosphere, unfortunately your could barely see Ayers Rock from a few kilometers away, up close though it wasn't too bad. Due to the wind the rock was closed for climbing so we headed straight out to the Olgas. These were pretty spectacular. I kept on stopping for photo's, I suppose this is pretty normal for someone who has not been up here before. We chose to do the 'Valley of the Winds' walk with the kids. It was very picturesque, and only 6 km's long. Linch was truly deserved after that effort.
On the return from the Olgas, we swung past Ayers Rock for a sneak peak before we came back for sunset photos. The steepness of the climb struck me! But the sight was fantastic.we returned later on for sunset photos, unfortunately the smoke & dust haze made the sight a bit less spectacular as how it is usually depicted.
This morning we got up and headed straight for the rock. We were all keen to climb it when we arrived. As Murphys law would have it, the kids got up part of the way before one felt a bit unsure of their footing, I.e. Choice of footwear, and the other was a bit uncertain too. Paula was keen so off she continued. The kids and I did the
Marla
walk which was guided by a park officer who had 16 years experience at his current job. He was very good & informative. We suddenly got a SMS from Paula at
the summit
telling us she made it. At least 3 had some coverage ther unlike Vodafone who have extremely poor coverage throughout Central Aust.
We all met up after the walk and went to the Cultural centre where the kids & I picked up a few souvenirs.
Back to camp for a cool drink and more efforts on solving the circuit breaker issue I have between the car and camper.
