Gavern & Sue

Back To Index
We diced to walk along the top ridge of Dales gorge and then walk down
to circular falls and swim in a pool that only gets sunlight for 15
minutes of the day. There are plenty of warning about how cold the water
is. The tracks are rates from 2 - 6, 2 being accessible to everyone, 6
being for certificated climbers. The walk down is rated 4 where a
moderate to high level of fitness is required. I know kids your mother
was going to meet the challenge or die in the process (you do know where
the wills are don't you?) It's very steep going down but
we've already worked out that if we walk along the gorge after our
swim we'll end up climbing out on a grade 3 track. The climb down is
not too difficult but im glad we're not going to climb back up it.
The walk to circular pool is mostly in sunlight and sure enough it's
not long before I'm beet root red in the face. AGAIN By the time we
reach the pool I'm burning up. We change quickly and Gavern is
already in the shallows by the time I'm ready. Forget the shallows
I'm straight in. It's like a sausage being put into a hot pan.
You can hear me sizzle and steam rises from the water. I'm straight
into the middle of the pool. Everyone else appears to have taken a quick
plunge and then got out. Not me I swim all the way over to the other
side, still trailing steam, to a small waterfall. Some foolish young
British tourists who have been procrastinating about getting in, see me
and think it must be ok. Oh the foolish boys. Don't they know what
menopause can do to a woman. But there's no turning back and in they
plunge, swimming over to where I am. They then huddle under the
waterfall which is slightly warmer, speaking in squeaky high pitched
voices, wondering how they will get back . Gavern is stunned and runs
for the camera probably to have proof that I've actually done it.
Typically male, he can't be seen to be out done by me and takes a
quick tour of the pool. We then walk through the gorge with scenery that
just can't be captured with a camera and haul ourselves back up to
the top.
No Desk, No Boss, No Stress. :)
