Gavern & Sue

Back To Index
We've set up at eighty mile beach. Gavern is ready to trade me in as he has decided that
people take one look at my pale skin and decide we need sunlight and lots of it, so we
don't seem to get a site with any shade. We head to the beach and walk along talking to
people standing with their fishing rods at the ready but there isn't much biting and
hasn't been for a few days. Gavern's around what do they expect. On our return to
the camp ground I get talking to Merv. You meet lots of interesting people on your travels
and Merv is definitely one of them. He's a paraplegic who has modified a van to suit his
needs and when it's time to fish he climbs aboard his quad bike( something I would have
liked to witness ) straps himself in so he doesn't fly off when he casts his line, and
reels them in with the rest of them. What really made my jaw drop was him telling me that he
has only recently given up his motor bike. He straps his wheelchair to the back and off he
goes. Occasionally the wheelchair would go flying off the back and he would have to retrieve
it. A real gutsy bloke with a fantastic approach to life.
No Desk, No Boss, No Stress. :)
