I don't like PayPal - and hated my one and only experience buying something from EBay and will never do it again. The tricky of their emails and logon/password systems really scared me and I had literally hundreds of emails regarding one purchase that I refused to open. I can't believe how many
Australia's like using eBay when its this hard to trust the payment system.

I have used ebay quite a lot to get rid of gear that I no longer need. I have only once used paypal and as such had to give my details etc to them to get the item sold. I now have to go and change or remove my credit card details somehow. I always used direct deposit and never sent anything until I had the dollars. I never ever cheated anyone and if they were not satisfied (once only) I directly deposited their money back into their account.
I hope it is not too difficult to get my details off PAY PAL and away from their prying eyes.
Thank you for the warnings etc.

The ONLY way to remove your details from PayPal is to cancel the account that they have details for and open a new one. Extream ???? yes. The only safe way, I'm not saying they will do anything to you, as you possibly have not done anything to come into their radar. But they will never remove your details from their data base. So you must remove them from yours if need be.

To be honest I really have no idea what/how paypal works. Whenever I have bought anything I always just direct deposit into their bank account from my bank account or pay cash on picking up the item. So basically I cannot do either of those things anymore? Does paypal work on you only having a credit card? I don't use credit cards, never had one never will.

Gday Jo, you have to nominate an account, it used to be, it must be a credit card, but that MAY have changed?? DO NOT give them a linked account as they have been known to give out details to others, not officially mind you, rather corrupt staff have done it in the past, Tigers dont change their stripes!!!!!
My best advice is to stay away from E-bay because of their family link to PayPal (they own PayPal) E-bay has got no competiotion and as such makes their own rules, YOU MUST OBEY. They have obliterated two companies that tried to compete with them and have no compunction in doing it with any future competition. Thats restrictive trade in anyones language.

Have you heard of the Bopo prepaid visa cards? I wonder if you could use that on ebay because it is basically a credit card that anyone can buy over the counter, but you have pre paid credit on it of how ever much you choose.

Jo,
My guess would be no, as they have no ongoing access to it. Buy what you want before May 17th and you can do direct deposits, credit cards etc. But not after that date. This fiasco was in the 9 news tonight but I missed the story, but what I heard was the they (e-bay) have received a huge customer revolt over it.

Very good read. I've been dealing with payapl /ebay for quite a while now, and only just realised that when I withdraw funds from my paypal account, i usually leave the 20 or 30 cents that on the end of a sale in that account. IE $120.30. I've noticed now that when I re access that account, that 20 or 30 cents has mysteriously vanished.!!!
