Kangaroo Island - South Australia’s Forgotten Destination

Back in March of this year, Fiona and I spent nine memorable days over on Kangaroo Island and enjoyed our stay that much, that we are heading back for another two weeks in October, as even in that time we did not see all that we had hoped to see. Those that have been there before will testify to the beauty first hand and those that have not, well this is just a taste of what you can expect to see over there. The only thing that I would advise is do not rush the place, as there is just so much to see and do over on Kangaroo Island, and as a bare minimum, I would not stay any fewer than seven days to do the Island any justice. Rather than do the usual big write up, I will do it another way – with photos, as like they say, a photo is worth a thousand words.

Kangaroo Island is a very family friendly destination and do not let the price of the ferry deter you, as the cost is not substituted in any way by our local State Government. Another tip for anyone intending to head over there is to make sure that you purchase the “Kangaroo Island Tour Pass” from the National Parks and Wildlife before you start visiting the many attractions in the National Parks, as this pass will save you serious money and is valid for 12 months.

Hi Stephen
Some very nice photos.
Some one once told me it was not worth the trip over to KI !
I'm sold glad i didn't listen to them.
Well worth the trip and the cost of ferry i only had 5 days in july 09 and they weren't enough.

Rob
I only ever made one mistake
and that's when I thought I was wrong!

Hi Rob

Yes indeed it is a top spot and one location that does not get enough praise. I have also been told the same about our great Australian Deserts, "Why do you waste your time going out there, there is nothing to see out there".

When people make comments like that, it makes you think what would please them.

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers

Hi Wendy

Keep an eye out for specials through Sealink, as they ofter have cheap fares and trailers and vans for free. Give yourself plenty of time to explore the Island, as there is so much to see.

Enjoy your trip there.

Hi Vicki

Thanks for that. Like you, we thoroughly enjoyed KI that much that we have put off our usual desert trip this year and are going back for 2 weeks in mid October. I have been told that the wild flowers should be at their peak then, so lets hope that they are for another added bonus. We stayed 4 nights down in the Western KI Caravan Park last time, but next time will be staying there a week alone.

Keep an eye out from mid October when we are over there again and another up to date Blog.

Enjoy your return trip.

Cheers
