 A week in Kalgoorlie.

Hi everyone,
well another week has passed and we have seen a little bit more of the Kal area. The first couple of days were spent in the van park, so we could go into the Mines dept in Kalgoorlie and get all the relevant info on where we could go detecting and where we couldn't. It was all very confusing, and in the end i was tearing my hair out, as it wasnt looking good at first.

It's all foreign territory to me as far as gold is concerned over here as its our first trip into WA. So, after 2 days we had maps maps and more maps, plenty of phone numbers of station owners etc and a reasonable idea of where to go. It turned out that there is more ground available here than I first thought. Once all that was out of the way, we decided to go and have a bo peep at the famous "Super Pit". WOW and a few crow calls, were all we could produce for the first 30 sconds of seing it!!
It's definitley a must see for anyone new to Kalgoorlie. Seeing it in the "flesh" is absolutely amazing. Jodie & i dropped into Woolies to stock up on some supplies, then it was out to Kanowna ,NE of Kal to set up for some detecting. We spent 2 days out there but had to retreat back to town and re appraise a spot to search for nuggets as the Kanowna township area was just littered with miles of rubbish, making detecting a real nightmare.
We finally bumped into a friend from Nowra & fellow prospector, who has been detecting and working in the mines here for 2 years now. We organised a day out today, and he showed me some of the ground to look for and basically a geology lesson for the WA goldfields. The day started bright and sunny, and by 10.30 am, there were 2 lovely WA nuggets in the pill jar for Uncle this morning!! the ice had finally been broken!
It was quite a warm day here today, and Jodie just had a chillout day back at the park and caught up with phone calls to family etc. We had a visit out to the famous Orabanda Pub ,the other day, and also a look at the historic old Kanowna Cemetery. We head back out bush tomorrow for a few days to a week now to chase a bit more gold now that we know what ground we are looking for. The mines industry here is in Very full swing, and most of the parks are overflowing with new workers and their families in the park. They are even camped here in tents, and heading out to work each day. Will catch up with everyone in another week or so, take care Jodie & Unc
