Anotherweek has gone already!! Some new sights and plenty of piccies taken too.We finally left Kalgoorlie, and travelled Nth to Lake Goongarrie, where we found a nice campspot under some shady trees, but stll enough sun for the solar panels. The amount of quartz around the lake was amazing, we did some driving around the edge of the lake while exlporing the hills looking for some tell tale signs of gold.
On the second morning I got a couple of small bits off some old dozer scrapes very close to camp, but that was about all that had been left behind. After leaving the Lake we travelled out to Goongarrie Homestead for a look. Some of the old buildings have been improved now for travellers to stay in and ther is also a nice campground there as well. After some pics and video, we headed out via Comet Vale, the back way for a drive. The roads are in great condition at present, we sailed along though at a very leisurlie pace to enjoy the sights. Moving right along it was onto the old mining area of Menzies, where we had a roadside lunchstop( blink & you would miss Menzies). Finally after lunch we got going again to travel out to Niagara Dam where we camped for a night, passing Morapai Station along the route. They also offer camping and accomodation for passing travellers.
By early afternoon we had set up camp at the dam with some other travellers nearby, and sat back with a glass of red and some port, and watched the full moon rise over the dam, with ahrdly a breath of wind. Niagara was a great spot and we may return there another time.We had some very tasty jaffles for tea done on the open fire that night( very yummy!!) After leaving niagara this morning, we went thru Kookynie, where we had a sausage roll for morning tea at the Grand Hotel (which is up for sale). The road side along the way was littered with dead roos, making spotting wedge tail eagles very easy. Finally got some video footage of several eagles along the route. Reached Laverton by early after noon, where we will spend a few days detecting here.
