Fortescue Falls.
After a couple of nights in Tom Price Tourist park, we decided to treat ourselves one more time, before getting into the prospecting again, and this time headed for the beautiful gorge areas of Karajini. We had met some fellow travellers one afternoon, when we pulled in late at the House creek Bridge free camp, before tom Price, out of the Camps 4 book. This spot was very shady, with plenty of birdlife, including some wild Budgies. Lucky we got in just before dark, because the place was only a small camp area, and was very popular, with other travellers and already very full.
Jodie and I quickly set the camper up for a one nighter, and got into a coldie straight away. It was a very "cosy" site that night with all other travellers coming over to the fire for a beer. Anyway, to cut a long story short we "clicked" with 2 couples that night and continued onto Tom Price with them.
Rod & Nicole & their 2 kidsfrom Melbourne,Carl and his wife Deb, and 3 kids from Qld, and Matt & his wife Alison and their 2 kids from Canberra and Jodie and myself then left to travel to Karajini with them. We set up in the campgrounds, which were quite level sites, and the staff and camp hosts were very helpful indeed. We quickly got into our hiking gear, and took off for the big loop of Fortescue falls, the Circular pool, then walked down along the gorge to the Fern pool.
A great walk for all and even the kids were raving about it when we got back.(although they were all a bit tired too!!) Next morning they all left to do Weano gorge, however Jodie & I had some things to do before leaving for Marble Bar, so we decided to stay behind and pack etc. The crew arrived just on dark, so it was a very long day for them, also apparently there was a young German tourist stranded in Weano gorge after breaking a leg. he had been in there from 11 am, and it looked like he was spending the night in there as they still hadn't got him out as they were leaving. All in all, a great place for a stopover, and very glad we did it ourselves. We are now in Marble Bar for a while so stay tuned, currently we are rained in so it may be a few days before we get on the road again.!! Dingoes were also quite common in the campgrounds around dark, so take your thongs inside at night as they have a habit of disappearing.!!
