Spent the Australia Day long weekend at Beechworth in NE Victoria.

A couple of quick recommendations...

The caravan park at Lake Sambell is a beauty! Roger and Sue run a wonderful place; Very shady and spotlessly clean, camp kitchens, mini golf for the kids, even a Sunday night movie and the tennis on the TV in the camp kitchen. Roger is one of those blokes who never stops working and the condition of the Park is a credit to him...

Lake Sambell is a great place to cool off on a hot day. It was sluice mined in the 20's and made into a dam and more recently loads of sand have been dumped on the northern bank, making a terrific beach. We took the kayak and spent the day there.

Can also give a big thumbs up to the meals at the Commercial Hotel in the main street.

And the pies in the Bakery...

I agree about the bakery.....I always make a side trip to Beechworth just for the delights in the bakery.
