TRIP DAY 20
Saturday 24th september, 2011

Quick breakfast in our room in Beatty thus morning then pack up and hit the road. First stop was Rhyolite ruins just out of Beatty. This old mining town ruins was similar to the outback WA mining ruins however this place is just down the road from one of the hottest places being Death Valley.

Leaving Rhyolite we made our way back into Death Valley to complete our tour of this park. Today we travelled right through the park and out into snow and western movie country of Lone Pine. We stopped at the film museum and were educated in early western films it was very interesting.

We settled into Mammoth Lakes for the night And decided we should spend a few hours here in theorizing before we move onto Yosemite later in the day.

So with that we will see you tomorrow night.

I have never wanted to go to the US except to see some of their fabulous National Parks. I envy you.

Yes I know what you mean but its a unique and everchanging country with an incredible parks system. We don't see ANY canvas campers here though and the campgrounds and RV parks are designed for 'hookups' with hard open ground mostly. The private owned RVs are powerful machines that despite their size and always towing a 6cyl vehicle can tackle the inclines are well as us in our zoom machine! The hire RVs however are slow chuggers. I didn't plan the trip enough so spending a lot of time reading and researching on the go but that is part of the adventure and makes the discoveries al the more special. The best info is provided by the parks themselves - the town visitor centres are much like the Australian ones - lots of brochures about tours and shops!
