For some time I have wanted to traverse The Bulloo Track mainly to sort of fill in a blank on our travel map and also to get to Cameron's Corner and thus finish off visiting the
Corner Country of Qld, Sth Aust and NSW. We left home in
Emu Park on the 27th May towing our van and pulled up for the night at Possum Park some 20 Kms north of
Miles. An interesting place that was once a military Explosive ordnance depot. The night of the 28th saw us in Charleville and meeting up with friends as did the 29th then down to
Thargomindah where we left the caravans. A very well appointed park with friendly service and cost is $3.00 per day for a powered site while you are away. Add $20.00 while you are in residence. Left
Thargomindah on the 1st of June and headed down the Bulloo track which turned out to be an easy , picturesque drive roughly following the Bulloo River. Got to Cameron's Corner on the the 2nd of June and after the mandatory slaking of thirst and photo shoot arrived at Bollards Lagoon Stn, paid our $10.00 and turned north along the
Bore Track. Again an easy and picturesque drive. After
camping on the track we got to
Innamincka on the 3rd. Hot showers and cold beers and refuelled at $2.09.9 a litre. Camped on the town common for the night and next morning drove out to
Coongie Lake. What a delightful spot and regret that we had not given ourselves the time to stay for a bit longer but back to
Innamincka for showers then out to Cullyamurra water hole via Burke's grave. On their morning of the 5th we called in to
the Dig Tree then went to Noccundra for lunch then in to
Thargomindah and the caravans for the night and a bit of a clean up. The 6th of June saw us in
Quilpie after dropping into the pub at Eromanga and we then stayed there until the morning of the 9th waiting to see if the rain would arrive from
Birdsville as we hoped to go to
Windorah. Decided discretion should be the way so returned to Charleville for that night and next morning moved out to a very nice, new Tourist Park named Evening Star, on Thurlby Downs Station. It is 9 km from Charleville on the Adavale road. Can't speak too highly of the place or the owners. We watched the second origin there and were quite chuffed with the result. 30 zip. Left there on the 12th and after a night in
Barcaldine and a big day on the 13th arrived home. All up a really great trip with good friends and many good accquaintances. Fuel was by far the greatest expence but if you wish to see the country in it's many moods and guises there will always be a cost and we are only around for a short while.
