Murray Kulkyne National Park

Saturday 27th September
Murray Kulkyne National Park
It was a very lazy day which is just the way we like it. A chilly but invigorating morning dip in the Murray and then jaffles for breakfast. It was shaping up to be a very warm day.
Butcher bird foraging for scraps
There were only three 3 shrimp in the net, no doubt due to the shallow water thereabouts. The morning was spent reading then a walk along the Murray into the sand hills further down. There we found a large reef jutting out across the river at roughly the midway point between our bend and sandbar and the next one west. We returned to camp and had sandwiches for lunch. The commencement of the AFL Grand Final festivities coincided with the first bottle of vino being opened. And the amount consumed increased as the poor performance of Geelong manifested itself. Finally a 27 point drubbing by the Hawks and Hugh was looking to open another bottle of scotch.
Feral goats coming down for an afternoon drink
In the evening we enjoyed the return of the wildlife. We had extra visitors in the form of a herd of goats coming down to water on the NSW side. It was chops and veg for dinner and an early night. Not exactly a Grand Final performance but then neither was Geelong’s!
