Winter Track Closures - Victoria

Many roads and tracks in Victoria's National Parks are closed to vehicle traffic for a period of time each year. Seasonal road closures generally operate from the long weekend in June through to the end of October, but may be extended due to seasonal conditions.

Full a full list of these closures, refer to the Travel Tips & Alerts tab shown on the main Road Conditions home page and open the latest entry at the top of the list titled "Victoria National Parks Winter Seasonal Road Closures". Thanks to Life-Member - Mike (SA) for this report.

For anyone interested in what's happening up in the Kimberley, we've had an interesting post in the Forum direct from Anne of Drysdale Station who clarifies exactly what's open and what's not. Please check it out.

Photo Comp 2015 Winner!

Well done to all those that submitted entries in the 2015 Members' Photo Comp. After much deliberation, the judges have finally selected a winner in this competition to find the perfect photo depicting "The Rustic Outback" to be reproduced by hand-painting onto a unique double-handed cross-cut bush saw.

And the winner is: Member - Heather MG (NSW)! Congratulations Heather, you've won an ExplorOz voucher valued at $150 for use in the ExplorOz Shop, plus your choice of either the Classic or the Outback Merchandise Pack containing an ExplorOz Shirt, Stubby Holders, and Hat.

Heather actually submitted 33 photos - all contained within this blog entry. It's going to be kept as a surprise as to which photo(s) from her submission will actually appear on the finished painting!! The finished product will not be revealed until the National Gathering, to be held at Ross River Homestead in July 2015.

All ExplorOz Members are encouraged to attend our annual gathering - and what's more, this unique hand-painted cross-cut saw will be up for grabs as the major prize in a raffle to be drawn there! More info to follow.

Bloomin' News

Wildflower hunters - remember to pack a notebook along with your camera as you prepare for this year's outback trip. A notebook is useful to jot down extra information to supplement your photos of those elusive wildflowers popping up in unexpected places. The size of leaves and flowers the type of soil and locations are all worth recording. Try to take a number of different photos of the wildflowers you find, including of fruits, or seed pods, and leaves. All this information will make any identification a lot easier, as for this Straggly Corkbark from the Great Sandy Desert.

EOTrackMe

If you are a Member, and have registered a device to the EOTrackMe service, a blue tab will appear on the main EOTrackMe page (only whilst you are logged in) - this is labelled MyTracking. If you need to adjust any settings, or perform any other functions related to your personal tracking, you'll find it's all there! Look for the tabs above the map - My Tracking is there right beside Documentation.

One function that is performed here is Save. When you save your Active Tracking log it becomes automatically stored on the site as a User Trek - indexed to your profile. We recommend breaking up your long journeys into logical "User Treks" as these can then be named and therefore found easily by a commonly known track name.
