Description of Cobar
Founded in the 1870's after copper discovered, Cobar is the hub of mid-western NSW. The town of Cobar has a population of around 7,000 people, with the Cobar Shire
servicing a vast 44,065 square kilometres. The town has a strong mining and pastoral heritage, and within the CBD, there is a nice balance of old and new buildings. Birdwatchers would appreciate Cobar’s rich birdlife including the: magnificent Major Mitchell Cockatoo, Wedge-tailed Eagle and Mallee Ringnecks.
