Description of St George
St George is known as the
inland fishing capital of
Australia. There is an annual
fishing competition held for Murray Cod and Yellow belly.
St. George has several service stations with 2 having 24 hour service (swipe card to operate).
The Supermarket chain IGA has a large modern store built in 2003 and open 7 days.
There is several free camps within short distance of St George as well as several Caravan Parks and Motels.
St. George also has a
memorial to the first aboriginal RAAF fighter pilot from WWII who came from the region.
St. George was named by Sir Thomas Mitchell, as it was on St Georges day that he camped and crossed the Balonne river.
