Description of William Creek
William Creek is a great place to stop and see the inside of a true outback pub. Facilities have also improved greatly with a nice new cafe, improved caravan park facilities including units and scenic flights depart from here also. An outdoor museum is located in the centre of William Creek, a town steeped in history, particularly as it relates to the Overland Telegraph, the Ghan Railway line and
Woomera Rocket Range. It is
South Australia's smallest town and is located on the largest cattle stations in the world, Anna Creek Station.
William Creek Hotel stands out like a oasis in the desert. Along the
Oodnadatta Track, about halfway from
Oodnadatta to Maree and halfway from
Adelaide to
Alice Springs, the William Creek Hotel was built in 1887 to service the Ghan railway line that travelled between
Alice Springs and
Adelaide.
