Description of Kooljaman
Kooljaman is a 'resort' about 200KM North of
Broome across what many people regard as one of the roughest roads in
Australia. Providing you take your time and lower your tyre pressure, the road is not too taxing, but it is very rough in
places.
Kooljaman is on Aboriginal land and is owned my the local Aboriginal community, though mostly staffed by white folk. Well appointed cabins and safari tents are available along with many camp sites. Some of the camp sites have private grass huts on them, with water and a table / chairs provided. These are pleasant sites, but are very sandy and are often buffeted by winds.
Staying at Kooljaman is not cheap, but it is worth the cost and effort for a couple of days. The highlight for us was a low tide walk right around the Cape. The rock formations are simply fabulous.
