Jigalong is an Aboriginal community approximately 170 kilometres east of Newman and on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert in the Pilbara. Jigalong has a pastoral lease and there are five outstations in the surrounding area. The town and surrounding area is home to the Martu people, where the population fluctuates between 100 and 500 - depending on the time of the year and the activities happening in the community.
