Description of Lake Murphy Conservation Park
Lake Murphy Conservation Park and Lake Murphy provides a seasonal refuge for waterbirds. The lake fills only when the nearby Robinson Creek overflows and has been dry five times in the past two centuries. Visitors can camp or picnic near the lake. Shady, grassy campsites are provided. Take your own drinking water supply and remove your rubbish from the park. Lake Murphy Conservation Park is 31km north-west of Taroom. Drive 18km north of Taroom along the Leichhardt Highway then turn west into Bauhinia Downs Road. Travel 2km to the Glenhaughton and Reedy Creek Road turnoff. Turn left and drive 11km to Lake Murphy. Conventional access is possible in dry
weather.
Self-registration
camping applies in this park.
This campground does not take bookings. You will be required to pay your
camping fees at a self service
camping registration sign (located at the park). Under this system you write out your own permit and insert your camp fees (cash cheque or credit card). You are required to clearly display the
camping tag (attached to the permit form) on you tent or
camping structure. Ranger staff will check this tag during their compliance duties.
Usually self-registration parks are those that are less popular and do not require a booking. However, we can not guarantee that a campground or
camping site will be available at self-registration parks. It is still a requirement that before you make camp in a self-registration campground that you obtain a
camping permit by self-registering and paying the correct fees. People who camp without
permits can be fined.
