Description of Sofala council camp
Sofa has three camp grounds. They are all free of charge. This one just east of
Sofala before you cross the river you will see it on the left, has toilets and rubbish bins. A wonderful place to camp isolated with a camp fire direct on the Turon River or join others on the higher grounds. Weekends it gets busy. 1987 was a big flood and washed away the old camp ground. So if you have a Caravan its best to stay on higher grounds. Up higher you can charge your batteries with solar anyway. The locals are very friendly and take you on a metal detecting tour with your own detector. You meet them in the pub. And for a
cold beer they show you around. Relax or pan some gold in the Turon River. The water is
cold but clear. Plenty of fire wood around and a few museums to visit.
