 Description of Old Wentworth Goal

Built between 1879 – 1881, this single story brick goal with bluestone trim was designed by colonial architect James Barnett. The bricks were made from local clay and the bluestone was from Wales, was transported from Malmsbury in Victoria. The goal was used until its closure in 1927 and today is used is a major tourist attraction.

Geologists believe that these Sandhills originated after the last Ice Age, 40,000 years ago. Wind erosion over thousands of years has created this large dune system north west of Wentworth.
