 Description of World War II Airstrip Adelaide River

Orientation 80°. Located on Private Property of Mt Bundy Station, 3.7 Klm ENE of the town of Adelaide River , The Airstrip was used by RAAF Spitfires , and for maintanence by the 43rd Materiel Squadron, 46th AB Gp located at Adelaide River in June 1942. On 31 October 1942, P-40 Kittyhawk, A29-116, #41-36097, of 77 Squadron, piloted by P/O Thomas W. Watson (RCAF J6206) blew a port tyre on takeoff from Adelaide River airfield. The aircraft was slightly damaged and landed without mishap. It was later repaired and returned to service.
The site has many workshop and Admin building foundations scattered throughout the scrub.
