Ka Ka Mundi is a remote section of the Carnarvon National Park and is suited to people wanting to get away from it all. With more than 30km of sandstone cliffs and escarpments, rocky outcrops there is plenty for the experience walker to enjoy.

Overlooking the campsite is cave-pocked sandstone hills that are worth exploring, but remember that spirits live in these caves and will cause illness if you come into contact with them, according to Aboriginal legend.

Also close to the camp site is the Bunduncundoo Springs with their lush growths of mosses and ferns, the waters of these springs are cool, crystal clear and a good source of drinking water. The Aborigines also believed these waters had great healing powers and would immerse their children into them to cure bone problems.

Wills Grave Wills Grave - QLD
Point of Interest
Horatio Spencer Howe Wills (Horace Wills) was an Australian pastoralist and politician. In 1861, Horatio moved north to Queensland, at Cullin-La-Ringo in the Nogoa region near Rockhampton.
Approx 12km west of Springsure is a turn north leading to ‘Wills Grave’ approx.20km. Horace Wills was an Australian pastoralist and politician who, after moving to Queensland from Victoria was murdered, along with 18 others by Aborigines. His son, Thomas Wills was credited as one of the inventors of Australian rules football (he is the umpire in the statue outside the MCG).

Ka Ka Mundi was used as grazing land for over a century, with old cattle yards near the springs as evidence, before becoming a national park in 1974. The waters of the Bunbuncundoo Springs, which are located near the camp site, were believed to have healing powers by the Aboriginal people of the area, they also believed harmful spirits lived in the caves around the Springs.

2011 Stanage, Nugga Nugga NP, Ka Ka Mundi, Salvator Rosa and Tambo
]23rd – 21st July Stanage & Nugga Nugga National Park After a fantastic time on North Stradbroke Island we made our way north spending time in Caliope, Yeppoon, Byfield National Park, Rockhampton then to the Stanage. The 100km, sometimes very corrugated road from the highway, passes the vast area of land occupied by the Shoalwater Bay Military Training Area. The Talisman Sabre operations were in full swing while we were there. This is a biennial combined training activity,
Carnarvon Gorge
Someone should have told us about Carnarvon Gorge a long time ago! It's one of the best National Parks in Australia. Firstly Carnarvon Gorge isn't really near anywhere. We went south from Emerald via Rolleston (223km), or you could come North from Roma via Injune (238km). Both of these ways take you to the main section of Carnarvon Gorge. There are other sections to the gorge such as Salvator Rosa (access via Tambo), Ka Ka Mundi (also access via Tambo or Springsure) but we haven't been to those. In fact,
