Did the trip from west to east at the end of June '07. The track to the roadhouse was great - got there on a tank of fuel 60Lt. The track to the east is not as good. The track from Emu to Mable Cr stn is shocking - and thats putting it mildly. It would have to be the worst section of road in Australia. I had to travel at below 10 km/hr for most of this section. Does any know the logic behind why you have to travel 3 kms down the dingo fence then 3 kms back at Mabel Cr ? It was a good trip apart from the road condtions, but I wouldnt recomend it to anyone. Met 2 cars travelling west who had come up from the Nullabor to avoid the corrugations - good move.

we took our well planned trip at the start of october 2006. up to kal. through the great central road. ayers rock, olgas, kings canyon ( beautiful place, shame there was no water there) into alice springs and surrounding areas.then down to coober pedy and across the anne beadell ( much anticipated by myself ) instaed of going through the station we chose to go through the opal feilds, to the start of beadell. it was beautiful the middle of no-where just cruising along into taralinga. then it all began !! the corrigations started almost straight away, they are and were so bad at 50-60kms per hour the vehicle and trailer were shuddering so that the steering is useless and (my prado which is fitted with everything new from ARB.( amanda worked in perth arb) overheight old man emu suspension, ect you name it ! ) the vehicle moves sideways off the track. hence you must travel at 40kms tops with what i percieved ( as many 4wders thought along the way and in visitor books ) as beyond travel and savage on every vehicle to cross it by the time we got to the illkurlka roadhouse . i had missed most of the scenery due to having to watch the road because of the severity of the corrigations. also it had broken my exhaust system in half. my (brand new off road ) trailer had nearly flipped over, the hinges on the cage broke off, pins for the tailgate snapped, my new generator was shattered beyond recognition. ( the bloke filling in at illkurlka took photos in disbelief ) our aluminium table was smashed and this was all tied down !! when we did camp it was beautiful , and after welding the trailer up and making other repairs ( thank god for the road house ) we were on our way. ( F#%#k the south australian road management . the W.A. side was beautiful, with roads wider than the vehicle the community had as well as the roadhouse put up water tanks and toilets along the track on the w.a. side once at neale junction we were confronted by two graders which had graded all the way from Laverton. so the rest of the journey was great .. happy 4wding

Tassie Tigers completed the Anne Beadell in a leisurely 12 days from east to west, in July - a fantastic trip, in spite of the constant corrugations. The S.A. side was the worst, and varied from relatively softer sand, to "shot gravel" hard. Watch out for the darker track surface. Some overgrown bush, which was a bit scratchy for our 4WD flat-trays with slide-on campers, but a remote and spectacular part of the country. Ilkurlka roadhouse a welcome stop mid-way, with fuel, but water was scarce. Hot showers available opposite in the camp area, and the two brothers running the roadhouse for the community are very helpful and full of interesting info. A couple of water tanks are installed between the border & edge of Neale Reserve. The 9km side trip to Goldfields plane crash site worthwhile. Great camping and plenty of firewood the whole way. We had perfect weather, but down to -2C overnight. Noted ExploreOz stickers at the sign-in stations. Mick 013 - Tallaringa well is on the southern side of track, in some bushes. The Beadell sign is rather misleading. ExploreOz map excellent.

This feedback was sent to us today from Stewart Gillam VKS737W2 via email and entered by me into this trek's feedback section for the benefit of others. --------------------- "Hi. Great trek notes. ...Good deviation from Emu via Dingo claypan, follows the centre line of the rocket range back to the Anne Beadell Hwy, about an extra days travel but most rewarding...."

Just completed the trip fromeast to west. Track is in poor coindition on South Australian side of the border. We struck several days of rain during the trip filling some decent holes along the track. Many can be a lot deeper than you might think. In some areas, large sections of the track have been washed away only in recent times and recent fires have caused a lot of large trees to come down over the road, particularly on the West Australian side. Connie Sue Beadell had led a party through on the 15th April 06 or thereabouts clearing a lot of obstacles from the track on the SA side. They also performed maintenance on Len's original markers and replaced the missing marker at the Tallaringa Well site (still couldn't find it though..the well that is). Track in to the plane wreck site has become very chopped befrore the crests on northern side of dunes in particular (mindful for those towing trailers). Roadhouse at Madura-Laguna Track is operating and has plenty of deisel currently at $1.82 per litre (reasonable seeing it was $1.48 in Kalgoorlie by comparison). The three camp shelters are now operational within the aboriginal lands surrounding the roadhouse, each with a rain water tank. Campground at the roadhouse has a wood fired shower ($2.50). Otherwise, track conditions have only gotten worse since trek notes, but a bloody great trip never-the-less.

Travelled east from Laverton over 5 days from 27th April. Glorious weather for a pleasant trip along another of Len Beadells ouback highways. Generally we found the WA part of the track good and fast, but once into the sand dunes, the going was slower, and the corregations began.. These continues over any flat straight part of the track for the rest of the trip. We headed north after Emu to the Dingo Claypan, which was a worthwhile diversion. Having followed the markers to the 300 mile point on the rocket range centre line, we headed back to the Anne Beadell SE onlong the centre line, passing the 250 mile marker on the way. The centre line track is very rarely used and well overgrown, but can be followed fairly easily, although the route over some of the windblown dunes required a bit of a recce. Being modern day explorers we enjoyed the comfort of a moving map display coupled to a GPS - is this cheating??
