The Snook

Has a very slender narrow body with silvery sides, large mouth and long canine teeth. Inhabits the cooler southern waters of Australia. Favours shallow waters up to 20 metres near reefs and seagrass beds.

 Catching a Snook

Lightly weight the bait and allow to drift into a berley trail. Jigged baits also works quite well

Sport Value

Once hooked, snook will put up a low to medium fight

Tackle

Use main line between 8 to 10kgs. Wire trace should also be used. A rod around 1.8m to 2.0m is ideal for both jetty and boat fishing. Use No. 2 beak hook

Fish Fillets (Mullet, Mackerel, Yellowtail), Shrimp, Prawns, Whitebait, Pilchards, Cockles, Squid, Octopus, Beachworms

 Eating a Snook

Flesh is white, moist and sweet, although a little soft. Tastes very good panfried in small cutlets
