Toyota 200 series <span class="highlight">wiring</span> for caravan

with most new vehicles these days . the trailer plug wiring just plugs into the correct plug in the loom at the rear tailamp area an off you go .

Get the Dealer to do it. It's not straight forward.

As Gone Bush says, there is a specific wiring kit for the 200 cruisers, costs around $600. It doesn't just piggy back on existing wiring.

On buying my 200, the advice re towing plugs was......one can't simply tap into the 200's rear wiring for van lights - the extra current draw trips errors in the car's systems monitoring. There is a factory loom and plug kit (with a small control module) for the purpose - the loom gets it's actual lighting power from the car batteries up front and only takes a very low power 'signal' from the car's lighting circuits*. I needed a 50A Anderson plug power supply to the rear of the car, so the dealer referred me to an auto electrician down the road and I got the lot done there. Costs good $, but one needs peace of mind at these ultra-techno-electro-motoring times :-).
*I think the above is correct - to me, electronics can be befuddling.

Costs about $200 for the towbar kit and another $200+ for the wiring kit from Toyota.
Comes with excellent instructions and it is an easy DIY job, even though you need to pull the inside panels off both sides. I've done a couple of these now. Most is plug and play.
The blue Electric brake controller wire is there, ready to be used. And you can get the kits with your choice of plug.

As Phil G states...it really is plug and play with the correct wiring loom from Toyota

It takes longer than the instructions states at least first time around...the second time obviously heaps quicker

I did mine quite easily and if your handy and sensible it is worth doing yourself and at the same time you get the opportunity to run any other cables such as a rear power supply to an Anderson plug etc. if you wish.
