We have to stay in a caravan park in Maitland, NSW next month for a weekend to babysit a couple of the grandkids while their parents go to a wedding in Maitland. We also have a dog. Both caravan parks accept dogs at the manager's discretion. One caravan park (the Coachstop) has mixed reviews, some excellent, some terrible (is it the same place I wonder??). The other park (Maitland Caravan Park) has no reviews at all but looks a bit shabby on Google Earth?
Has anyone got some constructive criticism or stayed at either park??
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I haven't stayed here, but there are sites at Maitland Showgrounds. Dog friendly, caretaker collects fees daily. 08 88322171. Cheers Cherry.

There's one at heatherbrae 10 min away and very popular and another further out at the glouster turnoff just nth of Raymond terrace also very popular which you can short cut to via the back roads. Not sure on pet friendly.
Don't go to the one at tomago.

Heatherbrea isn't exactly 10 mins away - more like 25 mins. Gloucester is at least 1.5 hours away via the Bucketts Way ... neither terribly close..... just saying.

G'day Keir & Marg

I wouldn't stay at the Coachstop caravan park, the Show ground may be ok, I don't know much about it.

May I suggest Nulkaba Caravan Park on Wine Country Drive, Nulkaba. Active Holidays Cessnock Wine Country.

You could spend some time around the wineyards in your free time, it's about a 25 min drive to Maitland.

There also is the Big 4 Valley Wineyard Tourist Park at Cessnock.

Regards Jim Bob.

I should have mentioned that one of the grand-kids is still being breast-fed, hence the need for us to be within a very short drive of the wedding reception so the Heatherbrae and Cessnock caravan parks are out of the question. If that weren't the case, we would have gone to the Big4 as we have never had a bad one yet!

Check with Maitland Show Ground. Phone 02 4933 5052. If that is not available then I suggest you select a motel. I drove into the Coach Stop one day, drove straight out and ended up at Neath (now closed.)

Thanks Peter. We are actually fitting this in as part of a trip away with the van so it seemed to be a bit of a waste to have the van parked outside a motel. I'm waiting for a response from the Showground as they may have a big event on that Sunday preventing us staying on the Saturday night, so the motel might have to be the go. As a a matter of interest, when did you drive into the Coachstop? The bad reviews all seem to be more than a couple of years old.

We were there in 1999 but drive past it occasionally each year. Nothing has been done to the park, still has the old vans there in an even more dilapidated state. No sign of the block having been done up.

I live in Maitland and I'm amazed that PeterD actually got his rig out without something being knocked off.

Drove past twice today , nothing has changed.

Cheers Jim Bob.
